Deacon Sandy Pense
Sandy was born in Astoria, OR and moved to Portland, where she lived in her childhood home until she married Dudley in 1973. In 1977, they then moved to Estacada, where they still live in the home that God blessed them with. Together they have raised 3 sons.
When Sandy, lived in S.E. Portland, she had a friend who invited her to summer Church camp Sandy, was about in the 5th grade. She heard the Gospel message of Jesus' love and accepted Christ as her Savior. Without a Christian upbringing, she didn't understand how to walk with Jesus until she moved to Estacada, as an adult, and began learning while attending Church. Sandy has been attending EFBC since 1978. In the many years she has been involved with many ministry opportunities including being part of Women’s Ministry, Outreach, Fellowship, Church Services, Choir, 5 Day Clubs for children and has spent many years being part of our AWANA, VBS and other programs.
Sandy has been and continues to be very involved in the local community and began volunteering at the school when her sons were young. She also served on City Council for several years. She has served on the Estacada Together Drug Prevention Team and is currently President of the American Legion Auxiliary. These are just a few of the many local community and Church involvements.
Sandy has always loved people and wanted to help them. “God has given me insight to people's needs, so I try to help them with resources that the church and our community has”. When new people come to EFBC, Sandy is there to make sure they are seated so they are not alone and provides them with information to help them feel comfortable and safe.
This team works with the elders in following up of first time attendees. This group also provides oversight for the Welcome Center.
Elder Justin James
Short Bio: I was born into a Christian family in Cottage Grove, Oregon and came to know Jesus as my Savior at an early age. We moved to Tillamook and then to Albany by age 4 where I stayed until graduating High School. I started working in Portland for my uncle at age 18 to pay off my first hunting rifle and attended Junior College in Albany, commuting back and forth. After a year of that I became a self employed contractor and have been in the Portland area ever since. After spending 4 months in Hawaii framing houses and remodeling, my aunt set me up on a blind date with my wife, Kelly. That was 25 years ago. We are blessed to have 2 kids; Hannah and Josh. Through all of the ups and downs of life, He is always faithful and leads me down His path.
Elder: Justin James To prayerfully consider and provide events that facilitate our church family reaching out to others and building new bridges in relationships while strengthening old ones. Our goal is to do this while we Reach Out, Build Up and Grow Strong in the Lord together.

Another move back to California n 1978 brought the opportunity to set up the accounting system for Tim LaHaye’s Christian Schools program n San Dego. Then a change in work direction in 1981 launched a 35 year career in local government at six different cities in three states ending up in Estacada in 2009. Retired now, Bill has more time to enjoy this area on his motorcycle when not busy helping with the accounting functions at EFBC.

What are Life Groups at EstacadaFirst Baptist Church (EFBC)? "Life Groups are small committed communities of “EFBCers” who meet regularly and follow the teachings of Jesus in order to live out the truth through His power."
How do Life Groups work and what are they like? As a Church we desire most that Jesus would be glorified. The EFBC“Life Groups” gather with a vision to grow and live out the gospel message of Jesus together. Each of our Life Groups meet weekly for a couple hours, in order to build each other up, to be forged in the truth of God’s word and reach out together as we are fashioned to magnify Jesus Christ in our community. We believe it is in these smaller settings of roughly 10-12 adults (and in some groups with theirs kids!) in which we are better able to know one another, pray for each other, be renewed by God’s Word and effectively move to serve others in our local area, manifesting the transformational work of Jesus’ gospel experienced in our own lives.

EFBC Men’s Ministry Mission Statement ~
Our hope and desire is to develop men into strong Disciples of Christ so that as they follow Christ their spouses, children, the church, and the community will be eternally impacted and forever changed by God’s work in their lives. We strive to provide support for men we are blessed to be in contact with through mentoring programs, Bible study groups, times of prayer, and special events. We are intentional about offering specific ways for men to ENGAGE by serving the body of Christ and the community through evangelism, fellowship, worship and service projects.
Our motto ~“Reject passivity, Accept responsibility, Lead Courageously and Invest eternally”
Philippians 3:13-14 - Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Nurturing Godly Relationships among Women as We Seek Christ Together.
Deacon Kim Dodrill
Kim is a native Estacadian. She became a Christian her senior year in high school and developed a thirst for God’s Word. After two years at Clackamas Community College, she discovered Western Bible College just outside Denver, Colorado, where she received an Associate Degree in Bible, being thrilled to be able to study the Word of God. While she was there, she met Brent. They married and made their home in Estacada. She and Brent have two children and one granddaughter who has melted their hearts.
Kim and Brent began attending Estacada First Baptist Church and Brent was soon asked to be youth pastor. That was the beginning of their ministry at Estacada First Baptist Church for all but 4 of their 36 plus years of marriage. Kim has served as a youth leader, a women’s Bible study leader, Awana worker, VBS Director, and currently Deacon of Women’s Ministry. Kim has a heart to encourage women in their walk with Christ and in their love for one another. She loves God’s Word and greatly enjoys discovering and discussing its truth with other women, knowing God’s Word is alive and active changing us to be more and more like Jesus.
My Dear Sisters in Christ,Nurturing Godly Relationships among Women as We Seek Christ TogetherThe Women’s Ministry Team’s mission statement is written above. The team takes the mission seriously. We long to see relationships between our women across the ages be fruitful and fulfilling. We long to see our church continue to be healthy and thriving when the youngest baby girls now in the nursery grow up to become the “older women”. We’ve been asking the Lord to show us what women need to be sharing with women that will nurture our relationships with each other. God has answered our prayers and given us a vision for 2017. He has shown us two areas that we believe are foundational to vibrant relationships among women. The first is to explore together our God given design revealed in Genesis when God made mankind male and female concentration on female, of course! The second is found in Titus 2:3-5 which addresses Godly qualities that older women should possess so that they can teach younger women in certain areas of life…..foundational topics for mentoring relationships… our mission is to nurture those relationships. These two areas of study apply to all of us, no matter our age or experiences in life.
- Women’s Retreat –
- LEPP (Love Extended through Prayer and Presence) Visitation team to shut-ins and prayer team for a family in the church for a month (12 families per year)
- Little Lamb Celebrations – baby showers for our regular attending moms
- Ladies Tea – annual event – outreach to women.
So, the vision is to all explore and study these two topics TOGETHER for one year. With that goal in mind, there will be no other women Bible studies or women’s retreat offered in 2017. We will offer 9 different times to study these two topics so that everyone should be able to attend. All nine studies will go through the material at the same pace but some will meet weekly while others will meet twice a month, which offers more options for different lifestyles. We are not making known the 9 different leaders, because we want each woman to sign up for a time that works in her personal schedule and trust our Lord to group us together with women that we need and those who need us. The Beauty of Walking in Grace and UnityThe above was the theme of the 2016 Women’s Retreat – such a perfect beginning for what lies before us. We will need to walk together in grace as we will approach these topics with different experiences and backgrounds, but we will be united in exploring God’s word together – learning together – the result will be beautiful. We are calling this study Titus 2 Team True Design as we truly are a team – supporting each other and encouraging each other.Titus 2 Team True Design will begin in January 2017. The schedule is as follows:
MEET January – May
BREAK June July August
MEET September, October, November
BREAK December (busy month for women)
MEET January 2018 to complete the yearIn addition to meeting in small groups, we have planned monthly gatherings on Saturday mornings from 10-12 for everyone to get together to enjoy sharing what we’ve learned in our groups and then have a fun opportunity to learn some life skills such as canning/gardening/hospitality etc.
We are full of anticipation of what God will do in our lives and our relationships with one another as we commit to meeting together regularly for ONE YEAR. Please join us!Much love,Kim Dodrill
